Rahul Dravid appointed head of India's National Cricket Academy

The Academy was established in 2000 to train young players identified as future India stars

Former India batsman Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the head of India’s National Cricket Academy.

As part of Dravid’s new role at the institute, he will oversee all cricket-related activity, including being involved in mentoring, coaching and training players and coaches at the Bangalore-based facility.

The academy was established in 2000 to train young players identified as future India stars.

Dravid, who accumulated 13,288 runs during a 164-Test career, will work closely with India’s men’s and women’s head coaches.

He will also assist with age-group teams and national development as part of his objective to put together the pathway for the next generation of India players.

It is not clear from the statement given by the BCCI whether Dravid will also continue as the head coach of the India A and Under-19 teams.
