Matiullah Khan takes his first wickets of the competition before Joe Clarke's half-century ensured Knight Riders claimed a consolation victory. It leaves Warriors fourth in the table and with work to do to qualify for the last four
Abu Dhabi: Sharjah Warriors 130-9, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders 133-5 - Abu Dhabi Knight Riders won by five wickets
Abu Dhabi Knight Riders made it 10th time lucky in the International League T20 after securing their first tournament win over Sharjah Warriors.
Matiullah Khan's 2 for 24 and 54 for opener Joe Clarke helped secure a five-wicket victory.
Left-armer Muhammad Jawadullah took 3 for 24 in the chase but it wasn't enough for Warriors, who crashed to their fifth group defeat.
The consolation win for Knight Riders does little to improve their place in the table but it is potentially damaging for the Warriors' hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals.
They remain in fourth, level on points with Dubai Capitals but ahead of them on net run rate.
Moeen Ali's team still have matters in their own hands but anything less than win in their final regular-season match against Gulf Giants will leave them vulnerable to missing out.
Clarke's half-century helped made short work of the chase (ILT20)
Warriors reached 71 for 1 in the 10th over but fell away badly, losing eight wickets for just 59 runs
Khan, who had gone wicketless in his five previous tournament outings, picked up the prized scalps of Dawid Malan (7) and Marcus Stoinis (6) as Warriors were limited to 130 for 9.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore top-scored with 46 but just five boundaries off 40 deliveries summed up the Knight Riders' bowling effort.
Knight Riders showed few nerves in chasing down their target, doing so with 20 balls still to be bowled.
Clarke went on the attack, clattering seven fours and two sixes and put on 86 for the first wicket with Ireland's Paul Stirling (39).
Four wickets fell for nine runs in 13 balls but Conor Asterhuizen (7 not out) kept his cool, bringing up victory with a four through mid-wicket.
