Ollie Williams named as the winner of The Cricketer's inaugural Young Writer Award
Williams, 23, impressed the judging panel with his article which debated the root cause for the ECB's planned franchise tournament.
He saw off 81 other entrants to land the prize - a £500 contract to write for thecricketer.com this summer
Williams - who is currently studying for a masters in environmental policy and management at the University of Bristol - was delighted with the news.
"I’m both surprised and very excited," he said. "To be awarded this prize by such a prestigious judging panel is an honour and one which I am very grateful for."
The panel consisted of The Cricketer's managing editor Huw Turbervill, assistant editor James Coyne and digital content manager Sam Morshead, in addition to the Daily Mirror's cricket correspondent Dean Wilson and freelance journalist Tanya Aldred.
The Cricketer Young Writer Award was open to all aspiring journalists under the age of 25, from all backgrounds.
Winner Williams says he caught the cricket bug during the 2005 Ashes series and has developed a love for the game since.
He played for his local club - Shapwick & Polden - from aged nine and has been a regular at the County Ground in Taunton, where he volunteered during last summer's Women's World Cup.
