Travelling with Gullivers, you never know who you will bump into and not recognise
Steve Comley had caught the cricket touring bug. Having travelled to watch England play Sri Lanka at Galle he was desperate to see Joe Root’s team play overseas again. The next tour was to the West Indies. Perfect.
He jetted off to watch the first two Tests solo with the Barmy Army, and for the third Test in St Lucia his wife, Gaenor, joined him and they linked up with the Gullivers party.
"In St Lucia we stayed at a hotel called Rendezvous. It was a four-star hotel, right by the beach and absolutely ideal for us. It was amazing."
Steve's new-found passion for watching England on tour provided him and his wife with the opportunity to travel the world with the knowledge that Gullivers would be with them every step of the way. All flights, hotels and tickets would be sorted by the company and Steve and Gaenor would not have to worry about a thing.
Steve's retired life was taking shape very nicely.
The only problem was…his wife didn't like cricket.
But with Gullivers, this wasn't a problem.
"Gullivers made a huge effort to make sure she was enjoying herself. It didn't matter that she wasn't a cricket fan, our tour rep, Ed Nicholson, would always make sure she was okay, and the staff at the hotel looked after her really well while we are at the cricket.
"To be honest, while we were at the ground she would have a lovely time staying at the hotel relaxing on the beach!"
But there is much more to touring with Gullivers than watching cricket, or in Gaenor's case, relaxing on the beach.

"Gullivers had arranged Q&As with ex-players throughout the tour, which were brilliant. And the speakers would stay afterwards and have a drink at the bar. They were more than approachable.
"But one night in St Lucia we bumped in to Alastair Cook, Steve Harmison and Jonathan Agnew who had just gone out for a few drinks in a bar on their night off. I was very aware they were off the clock so didn't want to intrude too much, other than introducing myself and saying a quick hello.
"However, they were all more than happy to chat.
"My wife even said to Alastair, 'I don't watch cricket and I'm not quite sure who you are but it's a pleasure to meet you!'
"Me and my friends stood back a bit and weren't sure how he would react, but he just said, 'that's actually very refreshing, always nice for someone to want to meet me and not the cricketer, lovely to meet you too!'
"We had a brilliant chat for 10 minutes or so then we thought it best to let them get on with their evening off. But Cook really did enjoy chatting to someone who didn't know who he was and was brilliant company."
