Yorkshire coach Andrew Gale was delighted with Adil Rashid's return to the county game... but rued the spinner not featuring in red-ball cricket

Yorkshire coach Andrew Gale lamented the fact that Adil Rashid is not playing red-ball cricket after watching him claim four wickets against Durham in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Rashid, who has chosen to take a white-ball contract with the Vikings this summer, produced an excellent performance on his return to the county arena and impressed Gale in taking 4-47 in his side's comprehensive victory on Friday.

He went wicketless in the weekend defeat by Warwickshire but Gale has still seen enough to voice his frustration that Rashid is not playing for England in Test-match cricket.

“My only frustration with Rash is that I look at Dom Bess getting picked for England and see the way Rash bowls. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a white or red ball, it’s still round," Gale told the Telegraph & Argus.

“There is no way he should not be playing Test cricket for England, and that’s a frustration.

“I think he’s wasted his talent in that respect. But his white-ball cricket, he’s up there as one of the best in the world. He’s a massive player for us. You can see just how difficult he is to face. They just can’t pick his googly. He’s a fantastic performer.”

Rashid had not played first-team cricket since mid-March prior to Friday but still looked tremendously sharp.

“I never really doubted him,” said Gale. “I knew he’d come in and do well in white-ball cricket.

“I don’t know where he’s been bowling. There must be somewhere in Bradford because he’s come back in excellent form. He must have been bowling at his brothers in the nets."
