England have confirmed three new permanent additions to their coaching team.

Marcus Trescothick, who gives up his role as assistant at Somerset, joins as batting coach in mid-March after jousting with Jonathan Trott for the position.

Jon Lewis is the new pace bowling coach - Graeme Welch was also considered - and leaves his position as the Lions head coach.

Meanwhile, recently-retired Jeetan Patel, the former New Zealand international, is the new spin lead after a number of spells with the team.

The trio join Chris Silverwood's backroom team, which already includes assistants Graham Thorpe and Paul Collingwood.

Bruce French's permanent replacement as wicketkeeping coach is yet to be announced. James Foster is filling the role in India.

"Following an extensive recruitment process, I’m really excited about the calibre of the individuals that we’ve appointed into these specialist roles," said ECB performance director Mo Bobat.

"Marcus, Jon and Jeetan have demonstrated their ability at the highest level and also show huge potential for the future.

"Working alongside Carl Hopkinson, our current elite fielding coach, we have the makings of a strong specialist coaching team, possessing a diverse range of experience."

The process, which began formally in December with the advertisement of the positions, included the implementation of the Rooney Rule meaning at least one black, Asian or minority ethnic was interviewed for each role.
