Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart presented Ollie Pope with his first Test cap at Lord's on Friday, little more than a decade after handing him an Under-9 Player of the Year award at their shared county.
Pope, 20, will bat at No.4 for England in the second Test against India this week, following a rapid rise in domestic cricket over the past 12 months.
Having accumulated more than 1,000 first-class runs in just 22 innings, with a career average of 63.25, Pope replaces Dawid Malan in the home side's batting line-up.

And he received a few words of advice from a very familiar face 45 minutes before the first ball.
Stewart, who has played a major part in Pope's development, was on hand to deliver his young charge his first cap in the middle of an England team huddle on the outfield.
Not long after, Surrey shared a picture of the pair from 11 years previously, when Pope was in the club's youth setup.
Pope, though still baby-faced, is at least a little taller than he was back then.
Remarkably, Stewart does not appear to have aged at all.
