Teenage nephew of former Aussie star in sparkling form against England

The 17-year-old nephew of former Australia international Ian Harvey produced a battling cameo against a full-strength England attack in a one-day warm-up match in Sydney.

Mackenzie Harvey, whose uncle Ian played 73 ODIs for his country, hit a fantastic 58 from just 49 balls at the Drummoyne Oval on Thursday.

The teenager, born after the turn of the millennium, came in at number six for a Cricket Australia XI with his side 123 for four in the 28th over of the innings, having elected to bat first.

Harvey showed precocious talent, and more than a little self-confidence, to lift his fourth ball over third man for six before clubbing three more maximum and four further boundaries against an England side that featured Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Tom Curran, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali.

Rashid eventually stopped his innings in its tracks, beating Harvey and watching Jos Buttler complete a simple stumping.

However, in his time at the crease - in his first senior game - the youngster had already shown enough to suggest he could be something of a future star for the Aussies.

Just a week previously, Harvey had posted 136 from 130 balls for Australia Under 19s against Pakistan.

The Cricket Australia XI made 258 for nine from their 50 overs, with Travis Head contributing a run-a-ball 62.

Matt Renshaw, the opener who lost his Test place to Cameron Bancroft just before the Ashes, could only make 25.
