Kumar Dharmasena has replaced Ruchira Palliyaguruge as a standing umpire for the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford.

Palliyaguruge had originally been appointed to join Marais Erasmus in the middle for the match between England and Australia, which is due to start on Wednesday.

However, he will now serve as TV umpire for the game, with Dharmasena partnering the South African Erasmus.

Dharmasena and Erasmus will also take charge of the final match of the series at The Oval.

Palliyaguruge, who is not on the ICC's elite panel, will man the controls in the TV umpire's room in the fifth Test.

Javagal Srinath is slated to be match referee for both of the two remaining fixtures. The series is locked at 1-1 going into Old Trafford.

WHY? Ruchira has proved to be a pretty steady Ump. all round. Did wrll through World Cup. Kumar has been flaky, chronic amount of wrong decisions. Seems like rabbit in headlights at times. Reminiscent of his predecessor Asoka da Silva- removed from either World Cup or World 20/20 because of his chronic amount of overturned decisions. No explanation as per normal. Joel Wilson had one nightmare, one good game. Dharmasena has a string of nightmares and then gets aWorld Cup Final, with the excellent Rod Tucker sat behind a TV monitor. Bewildered ex umpire!
