The Cricketer runs the rule over the performances of the players during the clash between England and India at Edgbaston
Scorecard | Talking Points | Sam Morshead
Jason Roy (66): What a difference the Surrey man makes at the top of the order. Gives Bairstow a cushion to settle into an innings and goes at an opposition attack. 7
Jonny Bairstow (111): Combative, at times destructive and crucial in helping England set a decent target. A truly excellent knock 9
Joe Root (44): Could not step up a gear as required late on, but stabilised his side after a flurry of wickets. 6
Eoin Morgan (1): Out again on the hook. Rotated his bowlers excellently. 4
Ben Stokes (79 & 0-34): The form batsman in this England side, showed a return to the hard-hitting of old. One reverse hit for six off Chahal was magnificent. 8
Jos Buttler (20): A lightning cameo from eight balls, which included two sixes. 5
Chris Woakes (7 & 2-58): Magnificent with the new ball, helping keep India under lock and key early on, took a spectacular catch in the deep and picked up two wickets, as well as bowling three maidens. 8
Liam Plunkett (1* & 3-55): Effective in the middle overs, as everyone in the world knows he is. Collected Kohli, at a crucial time. 7.5
Adil Rashid (DNB & 0-40): A little expensive early on. One very gutsy, and economic over in the back end of the innings with the pressure on. 5
Jofra Archer (0* & 0-45): Did not look 100 per cent fit but still bowled with zip and retained his typically miserly economy rate. 7
Mark Wood (DNB & 0-73): Not quite as prolific as he has been in other games of the tournament. Took some tap from Rohit and Kohli. 5

Jason Roy illustrated his importance for England
KL Rahul (0): Injured himself in the field then dished a caught and bowled back to Woakes for a nine-ball duck. 3
Rohit Sharma (102): Another wonderful century from Rohit, who was dropped on 4 by Root and scratched around for fifty before finding his fluency. 8.5
Virat Kohli (66): A fifth consecutive half-century for the skipper, but he could not go on and picked out backward point. Timing up until that point had been perfection. 7
Rishabh Pant (32): A run-a-ball knock but looked flustered at the crease at times. 5
MS Dhoni (42*): When paired with Pandya, looked capable of seeing India home. Then bizarrely decided not to bother with the chase. 4
Kedar Jadhav (12*): Asked to do too much late on. 5
Hardik Pandya (45 & 0-60): Worked his way through 10 unmemorable overs. Some brilliant power-hitting gave India a sniff but when he holed out, the cause was all but lost. 7
Mohammed Shami (DNB & 5-69): Took some treatment at the hands of Bairstow, Roy and Stokes but among the wickets again - as he has been ever since his introduction in the tournament. 7.5
Yuzvendra Chahal (DNB & 0-88): Worst figures in ODIs. Bairstow, Roy and Stokes tucked into the legspinner. 3
Kuldeep Yadav (DNB & 1-72): An incredibly expensive first spell was followed by a much tighter second. 5
Jasprit Bumrah (DNB & 1-44): Appeared to be bowling on a completely different wicket. Ridiculous control at the beginning of the innings and at the death. An extraordinary bowler. 8
