It was a split second to sum up a miserable week. Winless, shorn of Dale Steyn, shorn of Lungi Ngidi, shorn of Anrich Nortje, a creaking batting lineup, three defeats from three games
As far as World Cup catches go, this was a gimme.
Kagiso Rabada did his bit, his short slower ball deceiving centurion Rohit Sharma. There were still 35 runs to get. It was a route - albeit an outsider's chance - back into a game that had looked well beyond the Proteas.
And then as the ball came down, David Miller appeared to be set underneath it. It looked an absolute dolly.
But, just like the early days of South Africa's World Cup campaign, this was about to go wrong. Miller hovered. He never seemed at all troubled. And then it hit his hands.

In...and out.
In. Out. It hit the turf as quickly as it had popped out of his normally so reliable hands.
As simple as that. It was a moment to sum up a miserable week. Winless, shorn of Dale Steyn, shorn of Lungi Ngidi, shorn of Anrich Nortje, a creaking batting lineup, three defeats from three games. It was the sort of image that World Cup campaigns are remembered for.
It if can go wrong, it has gone wrong.
