The seamer’s deal was due to expire in 2020, but his updated agreement comes on the back of a fine campaign in which he took 44 first-class wickets
Charlie Morris has signed a contract extension with Worcestershire, keeping him at New Road until the end of the 2021 season.
The seamer’s deal was due to expire in 2020, but his updated agreement comes on the back of a fine campaign in which he took 44 first-class wickets.
The 27-year-old, who was previously forced to remodel his action, took his wickets at an average of 21.47; Ed Barnard also claimed 44 scalps in the County Championship, the joint-most of anyone at the club.
Against Leicestershire, the right-armer took career-best figures of 7 for 45, while he also played his part at T20 Blast Finals Day, featuring in both the semi-final and final at Edgbaston.
At the club’s end-of-season awards, he was named as Worcestershire County Cricket Supporters’ Association player of the year, while also winning the club’s Dick Lygon Award.
Paul Pridgeon, Worcestershire Cricket Steering Group chairman, said: “Charlie was an integral part of the squad last summer and showed tremendous character in the way he bounced back after remodelling his action.
“He is always striving to improve, works tirelessly at his game, not just bowling but batting as well, and is so popular amongst our members and supporters.”
Morris added via an Instagram post: “I never take it for granted playing for such a fantastic club. I hope, through continued hard work, I can play a role in achieving what this talented squad is capable of in the seasons ahead.”
