Who's involved?

England will be at pretty much full strength going into this series against West Indies.

Heather Knight will be back as a skipper after missing most of the summer due to a hip injury while Nat Sciver also returns after taking a break from the game. However, she has opted not to resume her role as vice-captain.

England's T20I squad has a couple of returning faces. Lauren Winfield-Hill is back in the side after some incredible performances with the bat in the WBBL and The Hundred. She lost her central contract for the 2022/23 season and has not played international cricket since March.

Fast bowler Katherine Brunt is also back in the squad for the T20Is. One of the most experienced players on the international circuit, she has 108 wickets in 104 matches with 16 maiden overs in T20Is, the third-highest in women's T20Is.

West Indies will be without the recently retired Deandra Dottin and injured skipper Stafanie Taylor, with allrounder Hayley Matthews taking over as captain for the time being.

Kycia Knight and Shemaine Campbelle return after missing the recent series against New Zealand but Shamilia Connell, Kyshona Knight, Natasha McLean and Jannillea Glasgow have all been deemed surplus to requirements.

Shakera Selman, who will serve as vice-captain, and Chinelle Henry will lead the bowling attack while uncapped left-arm spinner Kaysia Schultz has been included in the 14-strong squad for the first two ODIs.

Talking points

This is the only series England will be playing before heading to South Africa for the 2023 T20 World Cup, meaning now is the chance for players to nail down a spot in the XI. Winfield-Hill, in particular, will be hoping to carry her strong domestic form onto the international stage after earning a recall.

The series also marks the start of Jon Lewis' reign as head coach after replacing Lisa Keightley in November. The Australian, who spent three years at the helm, steered England to the final of the 2022 Women's Cricket World Cup but was hampered by the Covid-19 pandemic for much of her time in charge.

Lewis has said his "job is to take the handbrake off" and get players playing to "their full potential" as well as promising a brand of cricket which will "push Australia off the top". It will be interesting to see how his approach manifests itself on the field.

West Indies head into the series hoping to banish the disappointment of their recent series against New Zealand. In North Sound, the White Ferns won the three-match ODI series 2-1 and the five-match T20I series 3-1.

Selector, Ann Browne-John, said: "This series against England comes on the heels of the New Zealand tour to the West Indies and continues our important preparation for the upcoming Tri Series against India and South Africa and the ICC Women's T20 World Cup to follow. It gives the players a great opportunity to develop and push for final selection for the Tri Series and World Cup."

What happened the last time they met?

The last team these two teams contested a bilateral series was in 2020, when West Indies travelled to England for a five-match T20I series.

England managed to clean sweep the series and they will be hopeful of a similar result this time in the Caribbean.

West Indies batter Deandra Dottin was the lone warrior for her side - she scored 185 runs, including two half-centuries - while England showcased a complete team performance throughout the series.

The most recent ODI meeting came at the 2022 Women's Cricket World Cup (West Indies won by seven runs). When the two sides contested a bilateral series in June 2019, England won 3-0 on home soil.
