Southern Vipers, the reigning champions in both women's domestic competitions, have further bolstered their ranks for the 2024 season, with Charli Knott arriving as an overseas player.

Knott, 21, follows England seamer Freya Davies in joining Charlotte Edwards' regional side for the coming summer.

The Australian has featured in the Women's Big Bash for Brisbane Heat and for Australia A; she is set to be available for the entirety of the Charlotte Edwards Cup, as well as the first 10 Heyhoe Flint Trophy games.

"I cannot wait to be a part of the Vipers squad," said Knott. "Playing in the UK has been something I have been wanting to do for quite some time now so I am thrilled at the opportunity.

"It is always exciting getting to learn from new players and different environments. There is a lot of talent in the Vipers squad but I hope to be able to contribute to another successful year and go back to back."

Knott played 17 times for Brisbane Heat in this winter's WBBL and scored 283 runs at a strike rate of 147.

She took 10 wickets with her off-spin and joins a spin-bowling cartel that already includes England spinners Charlie Dean and Linsey Smith, as well as teenager Ava Lee and captain Georgia Adams.

"In Charli Knott, we feel we've recruited a young player of massive potential who demonstrates all that we like in a cricketer," added regional director of cricket Adam Carty.

"Having first saw her live in England, as part of the Australia A tour last summer, we've kept a close eye on her progress, and without doubt, following a superb WBBL for Brisbane Heat, we feel we have a player equipped to contribute commendably to both white ball competitive formats."
