South Africa batter Tazmin Brits ruled out of South East Stars stint

South Africa batter Tazmin Brits has been ruled out of her stint with South East Stars due to injury.

The 33-year-old re-signed for the Stars in January and had been due to be available for the entirety of the Charlotte Edwards Cup and the first 10 rounds of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, taking her through to July 14.

She made four 50-over appearances for the Stars in 2023, scoring 214 runs, including an unbeaten 112 (75 balls) against Sunrisers.

However, after experiencing discomfort while batting in the first ODI between South Africa and Sri Lanka on April 9, an MRI scan revealed a torn meniscus in her left knee which will require surgery.  

In a statement on Instagram, Brits wrote: "Still heartbroken and devastated about my injury, but so grateful for the overwhelming support I've received since the announcement of my injury yesterday.

"I will undergo surgery on Wednesday (April 17) and will spend the next few weeks prioritising slowing down and recovering while under the care of the finest medical professionals in Gauteng."

The Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy is scheduled to get underway on April 20, with South East Stars hosting defending champions Southern Vipers.
