Ecclestone had not been named in England's squad for the ongoing white-ball series against Sri Lanka.
After a busy summer, she was being rested to manage her workload and to allow England to have a look at a number of young and fringe players.
Due to the injury, she was forced to withdraw from the inaugural WBBL draft, which took place on September 3, but no timeline has been placed on her recovery.
Ecclestone, 24, has been an integral member of the England side in all three formats since making her international debut in 2016, taking 221 wickets in 137 matches.
