London Spirit's women's head coach job is being advertised after disappointing campaigns in the first two years of The Hundred.

Under Trevor Griffin, they finished second from bottom in 2022, having missed out via net run rate on the knockout stages in the tournament's first year. They were hamstrung this summer by Heather Knight's late withdrawal through injury.

Griffin, who also coaches Western Storm in the regional system and Sydney Thunder in the Women's Big Bash, can reapply for the role, which is being advertised on a one-year, fixed-term basis by the MCC.

The job profile also states that any successful applicant will have to be available for a "five-week period" between late July and the end of August, which suggests the competition is set to be completed a week earlier than this year, when the start of the women's event was delayed by the Commonwealth Games and its conclusion at Lord's was held back until September 3.

Whether next year's Hundred is five weeks long, though, is yet to be determined. The Cricketer understands that there have been discussions about reducing the length of the competition, with many counties keen to free up more space in the calendar.

Griffin only took on the role at Spirit after Lisa Keightley, who had originally been appointed, was announced as England Women's head coach, which ruled her out of contention.

With Keightley no longer in that post, however, she might well be among the candidates for her old job, which would see her link up again with Knight, her England captain. In her absence in 2022, Charlie Dean - a Keightley-era England debutante - captained Spirit.

Keightley is due to work as part of the backroom staff for Paarl Rocks in the upcoming SA20 competition, South Africa's new franchise tournament, and the Australian told The Cricketer in an interview to mark her departure as England coach that she was keen to return to the United Kingdom for a role in The Hundred.

"I would love to get a WBBL team, I'd love to come back and do The Hundred," she said, "and I'd love to go over and do the IPL. Hopefully, I get those opportunities."
