Sunrisers have re-signed former South Africa international Dane van Niekerk.

The 30-year-old will link up with the squad ahead of their Charlotte Edwards Cup opener against Central Sparks on May 19.

Van Niekerk made nine appearances for Sunrisers in 2023 before her stint was cut short by a thumb injury she sustained while representing Oval Invincibles in The Hundred.

She scored 78 runs in three Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy matches and a further 66 runs in six Charlotte Edwards Cup outings. The allrounder, who featured 194 times for South Africa, also captained Sunrisers on four occasions.

"I'm very excited to join Sunrisers again this year," she said.

"I had a blast last year and hopefully I can add value to the team again this summer and help the team win a trophy. I'm also thankful for the faith the club has put in me to sign me again."

Head coach, Andy Tennant, added: "We are delighted to welcome Dane back for the 2024 summer. Having fitted into our environment so well last year and added value in so many ways, we were very keen to secure her services again, and it is great that we have been able to do that.

"We are looking forward to working with Dane this summer and help her fulfil her ambitions in the game, which will help Sunrisers fulfil our ambition to challenge for silverware."
