Shabnim Ismail has been reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC's code of conduct during South Africa's semi-final defeat against England at the 2022 Women's World Cup.

The South Africa quick breached article 2.5 of the code, which relates to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage, or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an international match".

One demerit point has also been added Ismail's disciplinary record.

The breach relates to the dismissal of England's Sophie Ecclestone after which Ismail used inappropriate language towards the batter. Earlier that over, Ecclestone had smashed Ismail for three consecutive boundaries.

The England spinner later dismissed Ismail on her way to 6 for 36, putting her finger to her lips in celebration, but laughed off the incident in her post-match interview.

"It's all fun and games on the pitch, I just wanted to get even. It's all fine now – it's great to have that battle on the pitch and it's great to be fine off the pitch," she said.

On-field umpires Claire Polosak and Eloise Sheriden, third umpire Jacqueline Williams and fourth umpire Langton Rusere levelled the charge, which Ismail accepted without a formal hearing.

The minimum penalty for a Level 1 breach is an official reprimand while the maximum punishment is a 50 per cent fine of a player's match fee and up to two demerit points.
