There are concerns over Tayla Vlaeminck's involvement in the rest of the Ashes series after the Australian bowler was seen sporting a protective boot in Adelaide on Saturday.

The seamer was "sore" following her involvement in the opening match of the campaign on Thursday and was not included in the Aussie XI for the ultimately abandoned second T20.

The injury Vlaeminck is carrying is in the same foot which she fractured prior to the T20 World Cup in 2020, a problem which preceded a year on the sidelines.

Australia have yet to determine just how severe the issue is but, with the Ashes Test against England following hot on the heels of the T20s, and the entire series wrapped up by February 5, there are worries that she could miss much if not all of the matches to come.

"We are assessing that at the moment, and we will do that over the course of today and the next few days, and we will know more after that. Fingers crossed for her," captain Meg Lanning said.

"It’s always hard to tell with ‘Tay’ - she puts on a pretty brave face. I just had a quick chat with her today. She seems okay, but it’s hard to get a read on it at the moment."

Australia had to settle for one point from the second T20 at the Adelaide Oval, after persistent rain brought the game to a premature end.

The match had already been cut back to 14 overs per side before being abandoned altogether 4.1 overs into England's innings.

Meanwhile, Beth Mooney - who broke her jaw before the start of the series and has yet featured for Australia, has returned to net practice and could play a part in the remainder of the campaign.
