Sixers hot under the collar

Sydney Sixers lost their second match in a row as they were beaten by the steadily improving Perth Scorchers by five wickets at Blacktown International Sportspark.

From the moment Alyssa Healy (4) departed in the first over of the match, the two-time champions were on the back foot.

Fellow-opener Elysse Perry (Women's T20 Player Index No.2) hit her second half-century of the competition, an unbeaten 62 which included putting on 72 with Marizanne Kapp.

The South African's retirement dealt another blow to the innings and Sarah Glenn pounced, doing more justice to her increasingly lofty reputation, dismissing Erin Burns and then helping to run-out Dane van Niekerk.

A total of 137 for 4 was still Sixers' third-highest total of the tournament, made without either Healy or Ashleigh Garner (3) making a tangible contribution.

When Stella Campbell got Sophie Devine from the fifth ball of the reply, Scorchers could have been forgiven for fearing the worst. But in Beth Mooney (75 not out) they had a safe pair of hands to guide them to victory.

The wicketkeeper-batter cracker a third fifty in four innings to see her side over the line with five balls remaining.

While defeat was Sixers' second in a row, Scorchers have now completed the double over Perry's side to put their semi-final ambitions back on track.

Kerr comes to the party

Defending champions Brisbane Heat ended a run without a win stretching back to the opening weekend by thrashing Sydney Thunder by eight wickets.

Pace off the ball prevailed as Jess Jonassen and Amelia Kerr (Women's T20 Player Index No.11) combined to leave Thunder in disarray.

The New Zealander claimed her best T20 bowling figures outside of her homeland with 4-20 to rip apart the middle-order.

It began with the dismissal of Heather Knight (25) and four balls later Rachael Haynes (1) was back in the hutch.

Tammy Beaumont (12) was run out during her second over and from her third Pheobe Litchfield (9) fell to leave the 2015-16 winners 57 for 5.

They stumbled to 111 for 9 from their 20 overs and the target was small fry for the holders.

Georgia Redmayne (59 not out) struck a second half-century and Georgia Voll (31 not out) made 86 for the third wicket to guide Heat home with 21 balls still to be bowled.
