Sophie Devine has re-signed for Perth Scorchers ahead of the 2022 Women’s Big Bash.

The New Zealand allrounder has represented the Scorchers for the past two seasons, having previously played for Adelaide Strikers, and captained the side to WBBL glory in 2021.

Since moving to Western Australia ahead of the 2020 tournament, only teammate Beth Mooney (1,098 runs) has scored more runs than Devine’s 902, while her career WBBL strike rate of 128.81 is bettered by only Alyssa Healy among players to have scored more than 1,000 runs in the competition.

A handy medium pacer, Devine has also picked up 76 WBBL wickets, 16 of which have come in Perth Scorchers orange.

Commenting on committing her future to the Scorchers, Devine, who boasts 230 white-ball caps for New Zealand, said: "It was a pretty easy choice for me to come back to the mighty orange, the last two years have been pretty special.

"Winning the title last year for the first time in the club’s history is certainly motivation for me to grow something special with this group.

"We’ve got such a talented group which makes for a really exciting balance and I think getting that right is crucial to success.

"You can’t just rely on one or two people, it takes a full squad and that’s what we showed last year."

Securing Devine’s services for another season is a huge boost for Perth Scorchers and their bid to win back-to-back titles, with her opening partnership with Mooney unrivalled across the league. Last season, the pair scored a combined 989 runs and produced three of the top five partnerships across the competition.

Perth Scorchers have confirmed seven members of their 15-strong squad for WBBL08, with Mathilda Carmichael, Piepa Cleary, Alana King, Lilly Mills, Beth Mooney and Chloe Piparo also committing to the club.

Devine and fellow New Zealander Amelia Kerr (Brisbane Heat) are the only overseas players confirmed for the competition at present.
