The pair, batting for Hobart Hurricanes, swapped ends at the end of the 19th over after meeting in the middle, with Strano incorrectly facing the first delivery of the final over
A batting mix-up went unnoticed by players and umpires alike during Hobart Hurricanes’ match against Brisbane Heat in the 2021 Women’s Big Bash.
At the end of the 19th over, Hurricanes batters Tayla Vlaeminck and Molly Strano met in the middle for a chat, the former running three off the previous delivery to retain the strike for the final over.
However, after bumping fists and completing their discussions, the pair returned to the wrong ends, with Strano taking up her position at the striker’s end to face the first ball of the 20th over.
And the error went unnoticed by everyone on the pitch, with Strano scoring a two and a four before being dismissed by Courtney Sippel (caught Georgia Redmayne) of the third ball of the over. Vlaeminck did not face another delivery in the innings, with Amy Smith keeping hold of the strike for the final three balls.
Hobart Hurricanes finished the innings on 132 for 8, a total which Brisbane Heat chased down with nine balls and eight wickets to spare thanks to an unbroken 86-run partnership between Grace Harris and Mikayla Hinkley.
This is crazy, the Hurricane batters going to the wrong end between overs… #WBBL07 pic.twitter.com/hVoi4iYoxO
