England batter Fran Wilson has joined Hobart Hurricanes for the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League.

The middle-order player, who proved so impressive in the Kia Super League as part of Western Storm’s dominant line-up, featured during the ODI leg of the Women’s Ashes series against Australia in July.

She has also played 14 T20 internationals, while only five players – Dani Wyatt, Jemimah Rodrigues, Heather Knight, Rachel Priest and Amy Jones – made more runs than the former Middlesex batter in this year’s KSL.

Wilson, who has previously played Big Bash cricket for Sydney Thunder, will be joined by South African allrounder Chloe Tryon.

Tryon had been set to take part in the Kia Super League for Yorkshire Diamonds, though injury forced her to withdraw from the final edition of the tournament.

Both players will, therefore, play under the management of Salliann Briggs, the English coach who is set to take charge of the Nottingham-based team in next year’s inaugural Hundred.

"It's really exciting to have signed for the Hurricanes and to be playing a whole season in the WBBL," said Wilson.

"I want to make an impact in the competition and contribute to a successful Hurricanes season, I can't wait to be a part of the team."

"It will be great to join up again with Salliann Briggs, who has had a big impact on my career so far in England."

Tryon added: "I've heard a lot of great things about the WBBL and the group the Hurricanes have got this season, I'm really looking forward to testing myself in the high-quality competition.”
