Scorecard

Adelaide Strikers extended their winning run to three matches with a convincing 48-run victory over Hobart Hurricanes in Mackay.

After losing opener Katie Mack inside the first over, Adelaide Strikers struggled to score at more than a-run-a-ball for 14 overs. Dane van Niekerk shared a 47-run stand with Laura Wolvaardt and put on 39 (36 balls) for the third wicket with Tahlia McGrath, but when she departed for 44 (38) at the start of the 15th over the Strikers were labouring on 88 for 3.

Fortunately, new batter Bridget Patterson was in no mood to hang around and together with McGrath scored 54 runs off the final 36 deliveries to push the Strikers beyond the 140-mark. She finished unbeaten on 25 from 17 balls while McGrath, who scored 26 off 19 in last six overs, was 38 not out off 37.

And they carried this ruthlessness into the second innings, with pace bowler Darcie Brown removing Naomi Stalenberg (caught Patterson) and Rachel Priest (caught Amanda-Jade Wellington) inside the powerplay.

Mignon du Preez was the next to fall, caught by Maddie Penna off the bowling of McGrath to depart for 21 in the ninth over, before two wickets in two balls in the tenth reduced the Hurricanes to 44 for 5 at the halfway mark – Nicola Carey runout by Wellington and Risha Ghosh bowled by Brown to complete her three-for.

The Strikers picked up two in two balls again just three overs later, with Megan Schutt pinning Molly Strano lbw and van Niekerk removing Sasha Moloney caught and bowled to leave the Hurricanes 78 runs short with just under seven overs remaining.

The final three wickets fell in the space of eight balls, with Wellington removing debutant Angelina Genford and Tayla Vlaeminck in the 18th over before taking the catch to dismiss Belinda Vakarewa (bowled Sarah Coyte) at the start of the 19th as the Hurricanes were all out for just 94.

Brown was the pick of the Strikers bowlers, taking 3 for 19, while Wellington chipped in 2 for 15. Schutt, Coyte McGrath and van Niekerk took one wicket apiece.
