Warwickshire have begun the search for a new chairman after the news Norman Gascoigne intends to stand down from the role after 10 years at the helm.

Gascoigne, who will remain in the post until a successor is identified, was appointed to replace Neil Houghton in 2010.

During his tenure he has seen Warwickshire become one of the most thriving clubs in the country - they won the County Championship in 2012, the One-Day Cup in 2010 and 2016 and the 2014 T20 Blast - while Edgbaston has become a staple of the international and domestic calendar.

The Birmingham venue is the established home of T20 Finals Day and in 2020 it will host the showcase event for an eighth successive year.

Furthermore, the club have hosted seven Tests, 23 one-day internationals and five T20Is while Gascoigne, a former banker, has been in place.

The Bears will host another 31 days of high-profile cricket between 2020 and 2024 and next summer will be home to the Birmingham-based The Hundred team. Gascoigne will continue to serve on the board of the new 100-ball competition.

Chief executive Neil Snowball said: “Warwickshire CCC is in a far stronger position on and off the field thanks to Norman’s hard work and dedication over the last 10 years."

“From a team perspective, the Bears men have won five major trophies and are one of only two counties to have been champions across all formats in the last 10 years. Additionally, the women’s team recently won their first piece of silverware whilst there has been a substantial increase in the investment into boys’ and girls’ pathways, resulting in a growing number of young players graduating from our Academy.

“Norman also leaves the club in a solid financial position, which is underpinned by the extensive programme of major match days that Edgbaston will host over the next five years, as well as the continued development of our conference, events and hospitality business, Edgbaston Experience Limited.”
