The Bears were due to play Cheshire at Chester Boughton Hall on July 20 but the fixture will no longer take place
Warwickshire are the latest team to cancel a schedule fixture against a National Counties side, given the Covid environment and considerable selection challenges placed on the first-class counties at present.
The Bears were due to play Cheshire at Chester Boughton Hall on July 20 but the fixture will no longer take place.
The county confirmed the news on Tuesday evening. Kent had cancelled their game against Suffolk earlier on Tuesday.
Warwickshire director of cricket Paul Farbrace said: “We’ve got an incredibly high number of absences within the men’s squad at present, due to injuries and international selections, so we plan to use this year’s Royal London Cup as a development opportunity for our younger players.
“Having discussed this with Cheshire and given the current Covid environment, which is impacting the whole of the county game, we have both agreed to cancel next week’s fixture.
“We’re very grateful to everyone at Cheshire for their support with this and wish them the very best in the remainder of the National Counties season.”
Warwickshire are poised to lose a large number of players to The Hundred, while Chris Woakes and Dom Sibley are expected to be involved in England's Test series against India.
Their Royal London Cup campaign is due to begin on July 22 against Glamorgan in Cardiff.
