London Spirit lost what was effectively their first game of The Hundred on Tuesday when Southern Brave won by seven wickets. Heather Knight was the standout with the bat, scoring 44 off 27 balls, while Danielle Gibson also contributed with 28 from 20. Sarah Glenn led the Spirit's defence with the ball, taking 3 for 15.
It's a similar story for Trent Rockets; despite only having their fixture against Birmingham Phoenix abandoned, the Rockets lost to Southern Brave on the opening day of the season and to Northern Superchargers on Wednesday. The Rockets were expensive with the ball, enabling the Superchargers to post a total of 134. It seemed the Rockets were on their way to victory when Bryony Smith hit a brilliant 70, but they fell nine runs short.
London Spirit will be heavily reliant on the skill and experience of captain Heather Knight to put on a good show with the bat. The Rockets will be hoping Bryony Smith can replicate her innings against the Superchargers, but her challenge will be negotiating the in-form Sarah Glenn.
