What's the match?

Manchester Originals take on Trent Rockets in the 11th game of the 2022 men's Hundred.

When is it taking place?

The match is due to begin at 2.30pm BST on Saturday, August 13.

Where is the match being played?

Emirates Old Trafford is the host venue. The Manchester stadium is a spinner's paradise, with large boundaries and a pitch which often offers turn. So far in the men's competition, the one game at the ground brought a bumper 363 runs, as Northern Superchargers chased down 162.

Who's got the form?

Manchester Originals go into the game desperately in need of a pick-me-up, after losing each of their first two games of the tournament. Both losses have come in emphatic fashion, firstly by six wickets defending 161 at home against Northern Superchargers (who raced to the target with six balls to spare), and the second by 52 runs against London Spirit.

Contrastingly, Trent Rockets have enjoyed a fine start. The Nottingham-based side have enjoyed two convincing victories, both chasing. Birmingham Phoenix were put to the sword by six wickets, with Rockets passing their 144-run target with three balls to spare, while Superchargers were ousted by seven wickets. This time the target was 153, and Rockets only needed 94 balls to win the match.

What's the team news?

Manchester Originals will want to get as much out of Sean Abbott as possible. The Australian is due to play two more matches in The Hundred before flying back home to play in one-day internationals against Zimbabwe. Jos Buttler is captaining from the outfield, with Phil Salt keeping wicket.

Expect plenty of spin options for both sides, with Originals likely to line up with Matt Parkinson, Tom Hartley and Tristan Stubbs.

Tabraiz Shamsi continues to fill in for Rashid Khan, who is away with Afghanistan.

What's the key match-up?

Dawid Malan and Alex Hales at the top of the innings have been the key to Trent Rockets' excellent start to this competition.

Malan had until 2022 been known for being a slow starter in the shortest formats, only accelerating after getting set at the crease. In 2022, though, he's flipped the switch. Now, Malan's strike rate in his first 10 balls is nearly 140 (it had not broken 110 in any of the previous four years). That is considerably higher than the global average for the first 10 balls of an innings (according to CricViz), which stands at 111. His 88 not out against Superchargers was a perfect example of controlled hitting.

Hales, meanwhile, has been striking the ball for fun for Notts Outlaws for the past three years, and he's taken that free-striking approach into this year's Hundred, with scores of 58 (41) and 43 (27). If one doesn't get you, the other will, and when you let both get away, you're just asking for trouble.

Originals' powerplay bowling will be tested to the limit, and that may well mean chancing their arm with spin early on. This is more likely to be Hartley or Parkinson than Stubbs, but Buttler will be acutely aware of the risk posed by letting either Malan or Hales, or both, getting settled.

Their two bowling powerplays in the competition to date have resulted in opposition scores of 45 for 1 and 40 for 1, with Fred Klaassen and Abbott doing most of the work with the ball.

What are the odds?

Trent Rockets are the favourites with the bookies, with a best price of 9/10 available. If you fancy the Originals getting off the mark for the season, you can get odds of 21/20 in places.

What's the prediction?

Trent Rockets are power-packed at the top of their batting line-up, and in form too. Manchester Originals need to take early wickets, and if they do they may be able to contain the opposition at a venue where containment is possible. Don't be surprised to see the outsiders sneak a win.
