Men's Hundred Wildcard Power Rankings: How is the race shaping up?

The Cricketer assesses which of the Blast's main performers are impressing ahead of the July 2 deadline

1 (2) - Sam Cook: It's a hark back to the old days: someone comes in at number two and makes their way to the top of the charts. It has only taken Sam Cook one week, but the Essex quick has emerged as the stand-out domestic white-ball bowler of the summer, the status he always wanted. Eleven wickets in six matches was headlined this week by 4 for 15 in the dismantling of Surrey.

2 (5) - Jack Leaning: Climbs into the top two courtesy of one of the performances of the week against Essex. He slapped 42 from just 17 balls with two fours and four sixes before taking three wickets in the chase to help secure victory by 67 runs. Could be a snip at £28,000.

3 (1) - Sam Hain: The Blast's third-highest run-scorer behind Jonny Bairstow. A quieter week than the previous one, which still included scores of 45 and 35. Interestingly, with Birmingham Bears having started their campaign on the road his contributions have all come away from Edgbaston.

4 (-) - Matt Milnes: A tad profligate side but his five-wicket haul against Glamorgan is impossible to ignore. Scalps across three separate spells, including getting Marnus Labuschagne for not a lot represent the best return in the competition so far. Added two more to clean up Essex.

5 (4) - Jordan Thompson: A quiet week with the ball for the Yorkshireman, claiming 2 for 25 against Derbyshire as Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Alex Thomson were unseated at vital junctures. But it was with the bat that his most significant performance came, hitting a career-best 66* at a 253.71 strike-rate of against Worcestershire. That might have been the tipping point.

6 (3) - Fred Klaassen: This too was a subdued week for the Dutchman, taking just two wickets but keeping it very tight at the same time. One of nine bowlers into double figures for Blast wickets.

7 (-) - Will Rhodes: A new entry at seven thanks to a stunning 79 at a strike-rate of 197.50 against Leicestershire as he and Hain turned on the style for Bears. Adding 36 in a failed chase against Durham capped a fine week, but staying in contention will be a challenge.

8 (-) - George Scrimshaw: Joe Root. Ben Duckett. Ricardo Vasconcelos. Gary Ballance. Steven Mullaney. It hasn't been a bad week for the left-arm quick from Derbyshire who looks fully fit again after back trouble. Continue this form and a wildcard pick is more than realistic.

Jack Leaning produced fireworks with bat and ball

9 (-) - Keaton Jennings: After some unignorable form for the Lancashire second string, the ex-England opener took that form into the real thing and struck 88 in his one and only outing in the competition. Striking at 122 in T20s, he still has plenty to prove but this boundary-laden effort was a good place to start.

10 (-) - Fynn Hudson-Prentice: On the expensive side but you can't argue with the seven wickets he's taken at various intervals of the innings over the past week. Against Leicestershire his 3 for 36 saw him pick up dangerman Josh Inglis, Louis Kimber and Ben Mike. His 34 with the bat against Yorkshire may raise some eyebrows, too.

11 (-) - Dillon Pennington: Previously singled out for praise by Morne Morkel; Pennington produced a performance worthy of the South African seamer. The 22-year-old complete a triple-wicket-maiden against Yorkshire and then returned to pick up Joe Root, finishing with a lifetime best return of 4 for 24.

Hundred bun: Is it too late for Hudson-Prentice?

12 (-) - Dom Bess: Career-best figures for the England spinner against Derbyshire, matching Lockie Ferguson's figures of 3 for 21, getting rid of Matt Critchley and Leus du Plooy. Added that haul to his two wickets against Worcestershire before picking up Jake Libby against the Rapids. An outsider who might be better off with a spell in the One-Day Cup, if truth be told.

13 (-) - Dan Douthwaite: Hasn't quite hit the heights with the bat but eight wickets in the Blast and four over the past week means he is very much in the conversation. Bowled Billings and Grant Stewart in the defeat to Kent, but got Luke Hollman and Chris Green in successive overs at key intervals in the success against Middlesex.

14 (13) - Archie Lenham: Didn't bowl a ball during this last week due to rain but took *that* catch in the gloom at The Kia Oval. This boy will be special. Maybe.
