The England Test captain is looking forward to the 100-ball campaign at Trent Bridge after being overlooked by the Northern Superchargers
Australia left-armer Mitchell Starc and New Zealand captain Kane Williamson are top of Joe Root's wishlist for The Hundred draft this weekend.
The eight squads for the inaugural 100-ball competition scheduled for 2020 will be completed on Sunday in the first player draft in British sporting history.
Three players, including many of England's red-ball contracted players, have already been selected by each side with Root moving to Trent Rockets after being overlooked by Northern Superchargers.
The Trent Bridge-based franchise will have first pick when the draft of overseas and domestic players takes place and still have berths available in the two highest price bands.
And after having played alongside them at Yorkshire and duelled with them this summer, Starc and Williamson are Root's favoured draft picks.
"You look at the names of the players who have already put their names forward for the draft - the likes of Steve Smith, David Warner, Mitchell Starc, Kane Williamson - it's guys who have already been extremely successful in franchise cricket around the world and international cricket," he told Sky Sports.
"I've played with Starc and Williamson before at Yorkshire, so I'd like to see those guys with us, they'd both be very good signings."
Though Root, 28, has limited T20 experience in Nottingham he has an impressive ODI record at the venue having scored 378 runs at an average of 54. In Tests, his return leaps to 62, with two centuries and one fifty.
"I've played a lot of cricket at Trent Bridge over the years, and have had a lot of fond memories there," he added.
"I'm joining some fine players already established there, and a very fine coach in Stephen Fleming. I'm very much looking forward to getting going."
