Fixture: Glamorgan v Kent Spitfires

Venue: Sophia Gardens, Cardiff

Dates: Wednesday, June 16, 2021

Start time: 5.00pm

What's the lowdown?

Glamorgan have had a mixed start to their Blast campaign, losing two and winning one of their three matches. They were unlucky against Gloucestershire in their season opener, falling five runs shy of victory despite a magnificent 93 (56 balls) from Marnus Labuschagne.

They avenged the disappointment three days later against Essex, defeating the 2019 champions by seven wickets with six balls remaining, but couldn't maintain their winning momentum at The Oval, suffering a five-wicket defeat against a star-studded Surrey line-up.

The Spitfires fell to their first defeat of the season last night at the hands of Somerset. The West Country team blasted 204 for 7 off their 20 overs before they rolled the league leaders for 157 in 18 overs.

Kent have slipped to third in the table based on their net run rate, but will not be disheartened by a single defeat. They have been imperious in the Blast so far and will be expecting to bounce back quickly against Glamorgan this evening.

Who's in form?

Marnus Labuschagne struggled to get his eye in with the red ball but is having no such trouble with the white. The Australian is the competition's leading run-scorer, with 226 runs, and has scored a half-century in each of his three matches - his lowest knock of the competition is 59. He's also scoring his runs at a strike rate of 146.75 and has taken four wickets with the ball. He might yet play himself into Australia's World Cup squad.

Elsewhere in the squad, Nick Selman posted a rapid 45-ball 65 to set up his side's victory over Essex, including a 90-run partnership with Labuschagne, while Dan Douthwaite and Andrew Salter have both taken four wickets.

For Kent, Jack Leaning is experiencing his best start to a Blast campaign, bettering his T20 high score in consecutive games, culminating in a match winning 81 not out against Gloucestershire on Sunday night. Despite stumbling with the bat yesterday, he is still in the top 10 run-scorers in the Blast and is averaging 52.33.

With the ball Fred Klaassen is the joint leading wicket taker in the competition, with 8 scalps to his name. His economy of 7.87 is strong for a player that has the added responsibility of bowling death overs.

What's the team news?

Glamorgan head coach Matt Maynard has named a 14-man squad for his side's next two matches against Kent and Somerset. It is unchanged from their opening three matches.

Glamorgan squad: Chris Cooke, Kiran Carlson, Dan Douthwaite, Colin Ingram, Marnus Labuschagne, David Lloyd, Michael Neser, Andrew Salter, Nick Selman, Prem Sisodiya, Ruaidhri Smith, Callum Taylor, Timm van der Gugten, James Weighell

For Kent, Tim Groenewald and Heino Kuhn both miss out through injury, while Daniel Bell-Drummond is set to continue as captain.

Kent squad: Daniel Bell-Drummond, Sam Billings, Alex Blake, Jordan Cox, Zak Crawley, Joe Denly, Nathan Gilchrist, Fred Klaassen, Jack Leaning, James Logan, Matt Milnes, Qais Ahmad, Ollie Robinson, Grant Stewart, Darren Stevens
