Fixture: Derbyshire Falcons v Leicestershire Foxes

Venue: Incora County Ground, Derby

Date: Tuesday, June 22, 2021

Start time: 7pm

What’s the lowdown?

Two sides with modest records clash in Derby, desperate to bank the points they need to climb the North Group ladder.

Derbyshire Falcons have won two and lost five of their seven Blast games to date in 2021 and currently sit seventh. But they are only four points off fourth, as things stand, and hope is not yet lost when it comes to securing a place in the last eight.

Leicestershire Foxes had to wait six matches for their first victory but it came in emphatic fashion on Sunday, as they racked up 200 for 2 against Northamptonshire Steelbacks.

The Foxes are currently one place below Derbyshire in eighth.

Who’s in form?

Derbyshire have been blessed with several batsmen firing all at once during the term to date. Leus du Plooy has 277 runs at 55.4 and a strike rate above 130; Luis Reece has three half-centuries in his 212 runs, which have been struck at 175 per 100 balls; and Matt Critchley's 163 season runs means Derbyshire have three of the top 18 runscorers in the competition.

Leicestershire's Josh Inglis showed at the weekend just how destructive he can be with the bat with his maiden Blast century - a 62-ball 103 featuring 13 fours and four sixes, which helped toppled Northamptonshire. Inglis now has 258 runs at 51.6 in the tournament, and he's been striking at better than 181 in the process.

With the ball, George Scrimshaw took 3 for 30 in defeat by Yorkshire Vikings on Sunday and now has eight wickets at 15s this season. Logan van Been started the campaign in furious fashion and tops the wicket-taking charts with 11 (though he has been going at a relatively expensive economy of 9.11). Both players are taking a wicket less than once every two overs in the 2021 Blast.

Van Beek is joined at the wicket-taking summit by Naveen-ul-Haq of the Foxes. Naveen's 11 wickets have come more expensively, though, both in terms of average (20.72) and economy (9.56).

What’s the team news?
