"Not the lightest but a decent middle. A good value bat"
RRP: £220, Edges: 38mm, Weight: 2lb 1oz
Appearances can be deceptive, and so can weight distribution it would seem.
As one of the lightest bats available to testers on the day, the Optimax Pyro Edition was deceptively heavy to its user with Surrey's Bryony Smith saying: "Unusual shape, quite heavy for me personally but a really good middle. Good stickers!"
One student tester agreed, saying: "I prefer a lighter one but this performed well for those who prefer a bit weight to their bat."
There were no complaints about the middle though, with The Cricketer’s Nick Friend adding: "Not the lightest but a decent middle. A good value bat." Another student tester agreed, noting: "When you hit out the middle it pings - heavier bat though."
The Optimax comes in at the lower-end of the price range but is one of the thicker bats at 38mm. It beat out a lot more recognisable brands for performance scores making it a good value option.
