An impressive showing from Westminster's bowling attack underpinned a six-wicket victory in Spain
An impressive showing from Westminster School’s bowling attack underpinned a six-wicket victory to get their tournament off to a winning start.
Ayaan Diddee (2-25), Jamie Feldman (2 for 10), and Jai Gupta (2 for 25) took two wickets apiece, as did Rohil Bhattad, who finished with superb figures of 2 for 2 from 3.2 overs.
Harry Righthouse and Charlie Watkins put on 28 for the first wicket, but Dean Close struggled for meaningful partnerships and were not helped by two run outs as they were 74 all out with three balls unused.
Westminster, who are returning competitors from 2023’s competition, made relatively light work of the chase, led by Jai Gupta’s 23 off 19 at the top of the order.
A loss of three wickets for three runs gave Westminster cause for concern at 55 for 4, but Aryaman Gupta’s quick-fire cameo of 17* off 12 ensured the job was done, getting over the line with 13 balls to spare.
There were steady bowling displays from Dean Close, including Will Waltham’s 2 for 14 off four overs, Joseph Tuttey’s 1 for 6 off three, and Ben Lord bowling 15 dot balls from his 20, but they didn’t have the runs on the board to defend.
