Durban: Durban Super Kings 216-4, Paarl Royals 189-8 - Durban Super Kings win by 27 runs

Scorecard

Durban Super Giants registered an emphatic victory over Paarl Royals by 27 runs at Kingsmead to earn a second victory of the season despite the best efforts of Eoin Morgan.

Paarl faced a stiff target of 217 on a batting-friendly track, but a poor start meant they were always fighting a losing battle.

Reece Topley cleaned up his England captain, Jos Buttler, in the third over to deal Royals a huge blow. Jason Roy (32), though, appeared to rediscover some form and Wihan Lubbe (18) took their side to the end of a 55-run powerplay.

But Dwaine Pretorious struck twice to change the game in the seventh over, with Lubbe and David Miller both chipping to Jason Holder at mid-on. Off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen outfoxed Jason Roy in the next over to leave Royals 63 for 4 after eight overs.

Former England captain Morgan and Dane Vilas tried their best to turn things around but couldn't get their team across the line from a desperate position.

Morgan smashed 64 off 37 with two fours and five sixes, while Dane Vilas was dismissed 44 in the 19th over, and they were restricted to 189 after 20 overs, falling 27 runs short as Topley finished with figures of 3 for 34.

Earlier, Durban's decision to bat first was vindicated, with Kyle Mayers and Wiaan Mulder giving Super Giants a flying start; they plundered 63 runs in the powerplay before Evan Jones dismissed Mayers for 39.

Quinton de Kock came in at No.3 and continued the momentum. The left-hander made 57 off 31 balls before slicing a Lungi Ngidi slower ball to short third man.

From there, Heinrich Klaasen took on the baton, walking in with six overs remaining to hammer six sixes and a four in a 19-ball half century as Super Giants registered the highest total of the competition so far.
