The England international is expecting a second child with his wife Louise. New Zealander Phillips, a wicketkeeper-batsman, scored 500 runs for Gloucestershire in the recent T20 Blast
England international Jos Buttler will not join up with his Rajasthan Royals teammates for the remainder of the 2021 Indian Premier League.
The tournament, which was suspended on May 4 due to rising Covid-19 cases both in the bio-secure bubble and India itself, will resume on September 19 in the UAE.
However, Buttler, who scored 254 runs in seven appearances for Rajasthan in 2021, will not travel to the UAE as he and his wife, Louise, are expecting their second child.
New Zealand international Glenn Phillips, himself a wicketkeeper-batsman, has been named as Buttler's replacement.
24-year-old Phillips has made 25 T20I appearances for New Zealand, scoring 506 runs at a strike rate of 149.70. In total, he has 3,744 career T20 runs, including scoring 500 runs for Gloucestershire in the recent T20 Blast.
He is currently contracted to represent Barbados Royals in the upcoming Caribbean Premier League, scheduled to begin on August 26.
Rajasthan Royals are currently fifth in the table, lying two points outside of the top four with seven matches remaining.
