Shahid Afridi has been ruled out of the remainder of the Pakistan Super League due to a back injury.

The competition, which was postponed in March after several players and staff tested positive for Covid-19, will resume in June in Abu Dhabi.

Afridi, however, who played four times for Multan Sultans during the Karachi leg of the tournament, will be unavailable after suffering the injury during training.

“Unfortunately, I have been advised to rest and can no longer accompany my team Multan Sultans,” Afridi said in on Monday.

“I am disappointed that I would be sitting out of the tournament, but my best wishes, support and prayers are with the team to take the trophy.”

Afridi played an important role in Multan's 2020 campaign

Multan, who topped the group stage in 2020 before losing out in the playoff phase, have won just once in five matches so far.

He has been replaced by left-arm-spinner Asif Afridi.

Meanwhile, Quetta Gladiators will be without Naseem Shah for the Abu Dhabi leg of the Pakistan Super League after the young fast bowler breached Covid-safe protocols.

Shah was due to take a charter flight to the UAE from Lahore but was placed in isolation upon his arrival at the competition's hotel after failing to produce a negative PCR test dated within 48 hours of May 24.
