The Cricketer Podcast - Series 1, Episode 9: Ashes analysis, Broad's retirement - and Trotty's rain dissent

LISTEN: GEORGE DOBELL and JONATHAN TROTT reflect on the 2-2 Ashes result and Stuart Broad's England retirement. Oh - and Trotty's ICC rain dissent reprimand

The Ashes may be over, but Geroge Dobell, Jonathan Trott and Philip Brown are back with the latest edition of The Cricketer Podcast.

Was 2-2 the right result? Trotty suggests not: "I've heard a few people say that they think it's a fair reflection. In three Tests, England were ahead, especially in Manchester, and I think that's why it should have been a 3-2 series.

"Unfortunately, the rain's come in and the way that the Ashes is designed is that you have to win them back - which is quite right. So I don't think that it's a fair reflection. England played the better cricket over the course of the five test matches."

"They weren't far away from winning 5-0," says Philip, "and Australia could have won 4-0." Needless to say, there's plenty to discuss...

And the controversy isn't limited to The Ashes. Trotty explains why he's been dragged over the coals by the ICC for "getting his point across" on a rain break on Afghanistan's tour to Bangladesh.

Selection options for the winter, the art of the ball change and, of course, memories of the retiring Stuart Broad are also on the menu.

"He's reinvented himself in his thirties, at a time when other bowlers are thinking 'this is becoming really hard work'," says George. "He came back as a pitch-it-up, aim-at-the-stumps bowler. He refound his ability to swing the ball, he learnt the wobble seam, he became excellent to left handers.

"That hunger and love for the game has been the thing that has driven him on throughout."
