Essex seamer Matt Coles has extended his loan stay at Northamptonshire until the end of the T20 Blast group stage.
Coles had been due to play in Sunday's game against Worcestershire, though the clash was ultimately washed out - Northants' third wash out in just eight games.
The 29-year-old racked up his 100th Blast appearance in Friday's game against Leicestershire, another fixture that eventually fell victim to the rain.
Since initially joining the Steelbacks in early June, he has featured in six Blast games and four County Championship matches.
More than partially due to the weather, Northants find themselves sitting seventh in their T20 Blast group, having won two and lost three of their five completed games.
In the County Championship, however, the outlook is more positive; the club sits fourth in the division, knowing that the top three will be promoted to Division One next year.
Just 13 points off Glamorgan and Gloucestershire, who both have 129 points, a strong end to the season could see Coles' temporary side promoted.
