If New Zealand commit another minor over-rate breach during the tournament with Williamson in the side, it will be deemed a second offence by him and he will face a suspension
New Zealand have been fined after they were deemed to have operated at a slow over-rate during their five-run win over West Indies on Saturday.
The sanction, which was imposed by match referee David Boon, came after Kane Williamson’s side was found to be one over short of its time target at Old Trafford.
Extenuating circumstances – such as Carlos Brathwaite’s six-hitting – were taken into consideration, but this did not alter the outcome.
In accordance with the ICC Code of Conduct, the entire New Zealand side were fined 10 percent each of their match fees, while Williamson was fined 20 percent – as is the regulation surrounding the captain of an offending team.
If New Zealand commit another minor over-rate breach during the tournament with Williamson in the side, it will be deemed a second offence by him and he will face a suspension.
Williamson pleaded guilty to the offence after the end of the match and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
