Zimbabwe Cricket suspension lifted by ICC

Their membership had been withheld since July leading to funding being stopped but that decision has been overturned

Zimbabwe have been reinstated as a full member of the ICC after having their suspension lifted.

Governmental interference led to ZC being barred in July after their entire board was suspended by the Sports and Recreation Commission.

They were given a deadline of October 8 for the panel to be reinstated and the ICC are happy that their demands have been met.

Zimbabwe Cricket Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani and Zimbabwe Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry were among those giving evidence to the sport's world governing body.

Chairman Shashank Manohar said following a meeting of the ICC board in Dubai: “I would like to thank the Zimbabwe Sports Minister for her commitment to the reinstatement of Zimbabwe Cricket.

"Her desire to work in support of Zimbabwe Cricket was clear and she has unconditionally complied with the conditions set down by the ICC Board.

"Funding to Zimbabwe Cricket will continue to be on a controlled basis as part of a collective effort behind getting the game in Zimbabwe back on an even keel.”

The ICC will resume their funding of Zimbabwe Cricket, who are due $94 million over an eight-year period, and allow them to compete in their events.

The resumption of their full membership comes too soon to allow their men's side to compete in the World T20 qualifier which starts on Friday in the United Arab Emirates.

Nepal meanwhile have been given a reprieve on a conditional basis after being suspended by the ICC since 2016. At the start of the month, a series of elections for the Central Working Committee for the Cricket Association took place, leading to the pardon.
