Jaskaran Malhotra has become the fourth player to hit six sixes in an international over, accomplishing the feat for the USA against Papua New Guinea in Oman.

Malhotra, whose previous highest score in ODI cricket was just 18, took 36 runs from the final over of his side’s innings against seamer Gaudi Toka.

The 31-year-old came to the crease in the 10th over when his side was 29 for 3, ending unbeaten on 173, the second-highest individual total in USA history, while also becoming the first American to make a century since being granted ODI status. Aaron Jones had previously come closest, smashing 95 against UAE in 2019.

He also took the record for the highest score by a No.5 in ODI cricket, overtaking AB de Villiers’ 66-ball 162 for South Africa against West Indies at the 2015 World Cup.

Malhotra hit 16 sixes in all, only one short of the record set by Eoin Morgan against Afghanistan during the 2019 World Cup.

He joins Hershcelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard in achieving the six-sixes feat in international cricket, and just the second – after Gibbs – to do so in a 50-over game.
