Tim Bresnan is to leave Yorkshire with immediate effect, 17 years after making his first-class bow for the White Rose county.
The 35-year-old was in the final year of his contract at Headingley and has informed the club of his desire to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Since making his first-class debut for the club against Northamptonshire in 2003, he has become an integral part of the club in all three formats, playing a key role in securing back-to-back County Championship titles in 2014 and 2015.
He was named as Yorkshire’s player of the year in 2016, a campaign that included an unbeaten 142 against Middlesex in the final game of the season as the two clubs fought it out for the four-day crown.
All told, he played 199 first-class matches for the county, taking 557 wickets and scoring 6,714 runs. In List A cricket, he took 315 wickets, while adding 3,221 runs in 173 games.
He took 205 wickets for England across all three formats, proving an important part of the team that reached No.1 in the world in the Test rankings, featuring on the victorious 2010/11 Ashes tour and earning himself a World T20 winner’s medal in 2010.
Speaking about his decision, Bresnan said: “I would like to thank Yorkshire for giving me 19 fantastic years and the opportunity when I was younger to kick-start my career. Hopefully with me moving aside, the younger players will get their opportunity to kick-start their careers as well.
“It has given me immense pride to represent the county for the best part of two decades. My Yorkshire cap is one of my proudest possessions. I would also like to thank the Members for their support during my time at Yorkshire.
“I didn’t take this decision lightly but now is the best time to move on. There is still plenty of fire in my belly and I look forward to what the future brings.”
Director of cricket Martyn Moxon added: “Everyone at the club has huge respect for Tim for what he has achieved in his career for Yorkshire and England. He has represented the club with huge pride and distinction for 19 years.
“His contribution both on and off the field has been immense and we wish him every success for the future.”
