Scorecard

Oval Invincibles became the first champions of The Hundred after a remarkable victory at Lord's which saw them skittle their opponents for just 73 runs.

There was persistent rain throughout the first innings but the covers were never called on - an environment in which the Invincibles recorded a respectable 121, after being put into bat first by Southern Brave.

In reply, the Brave collapsed to the Eliminator winners. Marizanne Kapp was stunning with the ball, taking four wickets for just nine runs - tournament best figures, as the South London-based side ran out comfortable winners four miles away from their home ground.

Here's how it happened...

Ball 3: Shot! First four of the Final! The Invincibles are off the mark. It’s a touch too short from Anya Shrubsole, angling in, allowing Georgia Adams to open up the face of her bat and drill it through midwicket to the rope. 4-0

Ball 11: In the air and gone! Shrubsole strikes! Adams has to go here, and she grits her teeth as she begins to walk. The change of ends does the trick for the veteran bowler - fuller this time, Adams gets too much of the bottom of the bat under it,  looping up towards cow corner where Danni Wyatt gets into position and makes no mistake. 5-1

Ball 16: Lovely stroke from Van Niekerk! Touch too wide from Bell, allowing Van Niekerk to step out, meet the full ball and get plenty of elevation to loft it over mid-off, getting the bounce for four. 10-1

Ball 28: Cracked through square by Wilson! The rain is starting to get a bit heavier here, but the play continues - too full from Amanda-Jade Wellington, allowing Wilson to get on her knee and smack it flat on the sweep for four. 27-2

Ball 35: Shot! Wilson has another boundary. Tossed up by Morris, it’s a touch wide by the spinner - Wilson waits for it, and taps it through backward point nice and late. 34-1

Ball 49: In the air and down! Sophia Dunkley can’t hold - the conditions of the ground and ball can’t have helped, though. Too full from Norris, Wilson misses out and doesn’t get enough on this as she sweeps - but the Brave top-order batter can’t hold on at square. 52-1

Ball 51: Reverse swept for four! Excellent stroke. Fi Morris goes fuller this time outside off stump, allowing Fran Wilson to read early and get low, firing through point. 56-1

Ball 61: Hooked over to square - taken! It’s Wyatt again who makes the grab. Amanda-Jade Wellington returns to the attack and strikes. Floated on a length on off, Fran Wilson shuffles across and looks to bludgeon it over midwicket, but the slog sweep is mistimed. It sails to the rope where Wyatt is in prime position to grab at midriff height. 61-2

Ball 66: Taken! Van Niekerk has to walk. Important wicket, and Van Niekerk air punches in frustration. Angled in from Lauren Bell, DVN looks to open up the angle and crack it over the off side, but it comes awkwardly off a leading edge, ballooning to Lewis on the circle who grabs without much issue. 64-3

Ball 70: Cracked down for four! Capsey gets her first boundary. It was a full toss but it’s much too central, and the number five was never going to miss out - maneuvering her feet before lobbing over mid-off. 70-3

Ball 73: Four more for Kapp!  Uses the direction of the ball nicely. Full from Morris, angling away from the pads, the South African international is able to shuffle across, bend the knees and tap it to the rope on fine leg. 76-3

Ball 81: Shot! Capsey clobbers for four. Tossed on the pads on middle from Wellington, allowing Capsey to take a step out before firing right over the bowler’s head with the bounce for four. 92-3

Ball 87: Bowled ‘er! The dangerous Capsey goes. Lauren Bell comes back for her final set and she gets a wicket too. It’s slower this time, angling away towards leg. Capsey looks to swing it over midwicket but the movement beats her and the bat - leg pole is disturbed. 98-4

Balls 88 and 89: Couple of boundaries for Villiers! Handy runs as they look for a final push. The first isn’t pretty - taking an inside edge off Lauren Bell, beating everyone as it trickles down for four, before next time she reads the shorter ball, swinging cleverly over square for another. 106-4

Ball 93: Looped up, taken! Handy from Marizanne Kapp, but she won’t see this through to the end. Wider from Fi Morris, Kapp slams across the line - top edges it, goes straight into the air towards backward point where Amanda-Jade Wellington makes no mistake. 114-5

Ball 100: We finish with a wicket! Mady Villiers looks to end on a flourish - sauntering down and hammering towards long-on, but there’s not enough on it. In comes Maya Bouchier, who ensures she’s in front of the rope before holding on at chest height. 121-6

Not a bad score at all from the Invincibles in these conditions - Kapp, Capsey, Wilson, Van Niekerk and Villiers all with good contributions. Can Southern Brave hunt it down under the cloud and become the first champions of The Hundred?

Ball 4: Edged and gone! Wyatt has to walk. Just the start Marizanne Kapp and the Invincibles would have wanted. Wide of off for most of this set and she gets the bite - as the South African is driven at by Wyatt, finding a top edge and Bryce catches behind. 1-1

Ball 6: And another! Dunkley goes! Brilliant captaincy from Dane van Niekerk, putting herself in at slip. Wide again from Kapp, but there's real movement in the air and again it takes a bottom edge on the drive, zipping to Van Niekerk who grabs at forehead level! 1-2

Ball 10: Three for Kapp! What a stunning set! My goodness, Invincibles are in dreamland. On a good length time, it's angling in and Gaby Lewis looks to get under it, hooking through square, but there's not enough bounce and it sails up short fine, where Alice Capsey back-pedals and snags it. 2-3

Ball 15: Four for Maya Bouchier! Too wide from Shabnim Ismail, Bouchier is able to lean bat and use the wrist excellently- knocking it over point with the bounce, beating the fielder. 7-3

Ball 17: Put down! Bouchier survives. Tash Farrant angles it in, and Bouchier drives low - it sails to Gardner on the ring at mid-off, getting low, two hands under it but it comes out again! She shakes her head in disbelief. Could this be the start of a recovery? 7-3

Ball 27: Direct hit - Bouchier run-out! It's an early call from Stefanie Taylor, as she navigates one into point, where Wilson is running in - and launches it to the batter's end, where it strikes without intervention. The third umpire only needs a few seconds to see Bouchier is short. 11-4

Ball 30: Top-edged and gone! This is remarkable. Shabnim Ismail is officially in the wickets, with her ball leading to the run-out earlier. Shorter, bouncing up to Amanda-Jade Wellington - the Australian international tries to pull away but it kisses the leading edge, looping up to midwicket where Capsey won't put that down. 11-5

Ball 36: Fired to cover, Shrubsole goes now! What a take. Capsey takes the ball and has a wicket. Full and wide, it's routine as Shrubsole looks to drive it through the off-side, there's not enough height involved and there is Marizanne Kapp on the ring who takes on the dive. 14-6

Ball 41: Four for Stefanie Taylor. Wider from Ismail this time, Taylor does well to shuffle down and just nick it behind her, trickling through third man for four. 18-6

Ball 52: Lovely cover drive for four. A bit too full from Alice Capsey as it angles in, Taylor is able to open up the face and pierce the ring fielders to the rope. 27-6

Ball 57: Down the track, missed and stumped! Stefanie Taylor, who was the last member of the top order here, has to walk. Dane van Niekerk strikes - a length ball, it skids up and Taylor is tempted to slog. Her edge is beaten, and there is Bryce, primed to whip off the bails. 29-7

Ball 61: Shot! Four for Morris. Fuller from Capsey, it's on off stump and Morris premeditates the reverse sweep, turning well round the corner and it goes right past Bryce and down to the rope. 35-7

dvniekerk2108202101

Ball 69: Clever from Morris. Floated up by Shabnim Ismail, it's outside of off stump, allowing Morris to move across and loft it down to fine leg where it bounces to the rope. 45-7

Ball 83: Four more! Great shot from Norris. Angled in from Capsey, it's fuller and Norris is able to step out and nail it through covers for a boundary. 61-7

Ball 85: Bowled 'er! Capsey has her second. Some entertaining play from Tara Norris  but she goes now. On the pads, full from the young spinner, Norris tries to sweep but the bounce is too low - taking out off stump as a result. 62-8

Ball 86: Run-out! Looked tight and given! It wasn't a great throw back to the bowler Van Niekerk as Fi Morris looked to hurry back for the second. The bails are dislodged, and while her bat was over the crease, it wasn't grounded, bouncing back up when the wickets were lit up. The ominous three-letter word is displayed on the big screen. 62-9

Ball 98: Bowled her! Kapp has her fourth, Lauren Bell is castled, and the Invincibles are the first champions of the Hundred! 73-10 A/O

Dane van Niekerk, Oval Invincibles skipper, was named Player of the Tournament. She said: "First of all, I want to give credit to Southern Brave.  They've been incredible - set the standard for the whole tournament, and we had to rock up today to beat a very good side."

"I thought we were a bit short, especially with Southern Brave's batting. But again, we backed our strength of bowling and defending throughout the tournament - we did that again, so I'm very pleased."

"A lot of players put in a lot of hard yards to perform for their teams and their families. I think you need to back that and trust that what you've done is enough. I think I batted really slow and probably put us on the back-foot, but the quality we have got us to 120. We felt like if we bowled good lengths, the wicket would do the job for us."

Marizanne Kapp named Player of the Match for her incredible figures of 4-9. "I was tired, to be honest, when I went out to bowl! But Shabnim told me after the previous game that the pitch would suit my bowling", she said.

"I mentioned yesterday that I thought whoever won yesterday would win today, and thankfully that was us! I would love to bowl here again. As soon as I got that first wicket, I knew if I stuck to my strengths that I would get a few."

Oval Invincibles 121-6 off 100 balls

Southern Brave 73 all out off 98 balls

Oval Invincibles win the 2021 Women's Hundred!
