Last summer, lovers of our game were more thankful than ever for Test Match Special.
The commentary, conversation and laughter guided listeners through each day’s play as it has done for more than 60 years and provided familiarity and entertainment when we needed it most.
And come 2022, the team will swap the radio waves for the stage in the first ever TMS live tour. Jonathan Agnew, Phil Tufnell and Michael Vaughan will travel to every corner of the UK for evenings of fun, insight and memories.
Starting in Liverpool on April 9 2022 and ending in Edinburgh on May 8, this 20-date live tour is the first that the BBC has embarked on for its beloved Test Match Special programme.
Since its inception in 1957, TMS has followed thousands of matches through iconic voices that include John Arlott, Agnew, Brian Johnston and Sir Geoffrey Boycott. Each combining wisdom with no little wit for their loyal fans.
From famous Ashes series, to World Cup finals decided by the barest of margins, the TMS team has been a permanent fixture in cricket-loving households up and down the country.
BBC cricket producer Adam Mountford said: “Test Match Special is so fortunate to have a unique and special relationship with its audience, and this is a wonderful opportunity for three of our stars to hit the road and meet some of those who make the programme what it is – the listeners. I’m looking forward to catching some of the shows, too, and share in a celebration of cricket, radio commentary, and perhaps a little cake!”
The iconic trio will take you through unforgettable memories of both playing for England and from watching them from the finest seats in the house. From Birmingham to Barbados, Christchurch to Kolkata – they’ve seen it all. Alongside reliving the finest moments the game has seen, the stars will provide candid opinion on the issues facing England cricket and our beloved game as a whole.
The evenings will also provide the chance to answer cricket’s burning questions… What was it really like facing Shane Warne in his prime? What really happened the night after the 2005 Ashes? And which member of the TMS team never buys dinner?
