South Africa handed Lungi Ngidi fitness boost but unfit Sisanda Magala deselected for England ODI series

Tabraiz Shamsi and Jon-Jon Smuts have also proved their fitness for the three 50-over matches against the world champions, which gets underway on February 4

Lungi Ngidi will be available for South Africa's one-day international series against England after recovering fully from a hamstring problem.

Tabraiz Shamsi and Jon-Jon Smuts are also available after the trio came through a fitness and conditioning camp in Pretoria.

Ngidi missed the Test series through injury but has proved he is ready for the rigours of the series, which gets underway in Cape Town on February 4.

But uncapped seamer Sisanda Magala, who had been included in the initial 15-man squad, will not feature after failing to meet "requirements" during the camp.

He will join up with the rest of the squad but will not be considered for selection until the T20 series later next month.

Cricket South Africa interim director of cricket Graeme Smith: "I’m proud of the work that’s been achieved by the four players who have been in our high-performance camp for the last three weeks.

"I’m pleased that Lungi, Tabraiz, and Jon-Jon have been declared fully fit to join the ODI squad and I’m confident that Sisanda will be in that circle soon enough.

SOUTH AFRICA REPORT CARD: Quinton de Kock and Anrich Nortje provide the positives amid Faf du Plessis' misery

"He has put in an immense amount of work over a short period of time and we want to ensure he has the tools to deal with the high demands of international cricket when the opportunity arises."

Faf du Plessis and Kagiso Rabada have been rested for the 50-over matches, while the likes of Dale Steyn, Anrich Nortje and Dwaine Pretorius have been overlooked.

Quinton de Kock will captain the team on a permanent basis after succeeding Du Plessis.

"It’s an exciting group of youngsters that the selectors have picked and it’s a clear sign to everyone that if you put in the hard yards consistently enough, it will pay off eventually,” he explained.

"We’re excited to take on a team like England who have had a really good season. It’s a good way of measuring ourselves against the current ODI world champions and the right kind of challenge for everyone from the new guys to the senior players.

"It’s going be a good, quick and tough series and I’m looking forward to it."
