Lewis Gregory has been ruled out of Somerset's next two T20 Blast matches due to a foot problem.

The 27-year-old will not feature against Surrey on Friday and Middlesex on August 4 and could yet be unavailable for an additional period.

Gregory has enjoyed a fine campaign for the Cidermen but their hopes of adding to their One-Day Cup have now suffered a key blow.

"Lewis was experiencing some discomfort through his left foot, so we sent him for a scan," Somerset's head of science and medicine Jamie Thorpe. "The subsequent imaging has revealed that he has suffered a stress injury to one of the bones.

"Therefore, the decision has been taken to protect the foot for a period of time in order to let it settle and become pain-free. Lewis will then begin a gradual weight loading programme in order to help get him back on the field fully fit for Somerset County Cricket Club. Unfortunately, we don’t have a specific time frame for his recovery at this point.

"This is incredibly frustrating news for Lewis because he’s having an outstanding season. His contributions across all three formats has been exceptional and that has culminated in him receiving International recognition. It goes without saying that we want to see him back in a Somerset shirt again as soon as possible."

In the County Championship for Somerset Gregory has taken 44 wickets and scored 363 runs, while en route to beating Hampshire in the One-Day Cup final at Lord's he took 10 wickets and struck 287 runs in the competition.

Somerset have only won one of their four Blast matches so far this summer, with Gregory taking five scalps with the ball.

His exploits in 2019 saw him called up to the England squad for the one-off Ireland Test but he was overlooked for the final XI.
