Warwickshire batsman Sam Hain has signed a new deal with the county, keeping him at Edgbaston until at least the end of the 2023 season.

Since making his debut for the club, he has become a prolific run-scorer, particularly in List A cricket. He holds the best record of any cricketer to have played more than 50 games in the format, averaging 59.78 across 56 innings.

It is a mark of England's strength in depth that he has not yet featured at international level, though he was rewarded for his consistency with a place in the 55-man national training group that was put together following the first national lockdown in 2020, having been part of England Lions' unbeaten tour of Australia.

As well as his dominance in 50-over cricket, he also has a first-class average of 35.77 and averages 36.59 in his T20 career.

Hain said: “Warwickshire and Edgbaston has been my home for the last eight years and I'm really excited for this to continue until at least the end of the 2023 season.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the extra responsibility of becoming one of the more senior members of the playing squad and I believe that I took big steps forward across First Class cricket and even more so in T20 last season as a result.

“We’ve got a young, exciting squad and we’re all hungry for success. I’m looking forward to starting the 2021 season and hopefully making significant contributions that can take our young squad forward.”

Warwickshire director of cricket Paul Farbrace added: “Whilst we are now eight years on from him signing his first professional contract, Sam is still very young in his career and he can achieve so much in the game with Warwickshire and England.

“It’s fantastic to have someone in the squad who has broken the records that Sam has, but also know that there is so much to come from him.

“He has underpinned our batting in white-ball cricket in recent years but has also made good progress in the red-ball game. We’re thrilled that he has signed a contract extension and that he is very much a Bear for the foreseeable future.”

Hain’s commitment comes amid a winter of change for the county: Mark Robinson has replaced Jim Troughton as first team coach, while Ian Bell, Jeetan Patel and Tim Ambrose have all retired. Danny Briggs has joined from Sussex.
