Madhya Pradesh left-arm seamer Ravi Yadav became the first player to take a hat-trick in the opening over of their maiden first-class appearance after he ran through the Uttar Pradesh top-order.

The 28-year-old dismissed Aryan Juyal caught behind down the leg side by 'keeper Ajay Rohera to begin the haul.

Yadav then hit a fuller length, cleaning up Ankit Rajpoot and Sameer Rizvi with unplayable yorkers to spark jubilant scenes in Indore.

History was made on day one of the four-day game, which occurred in the seventh round of the Ranji Trophy.

The Firozabad-born bowler went on to take two further scalps after the close to finish with first-innings figures of 5-61.

Ricey Phillips, the South African who played 37 first-class matches, was the only other player to have taken a hat-trick in their first over.

His treble came in his fifth FC outing for Border against Eastern Province in 1939-40, having been unused during his first four appearances.

"I'm not sure if it's good luck, fate or whatever, but this record has come against UP," he told ESPNcricinfo of the feat, which came against the state from which he was born.

"I grew up playing cricket in UP, but couldn't get chances after I came out of the Under-19s, so it feels nice. I'm happy that I'm finally a Ranji player.

"I saw my career slipping away, I didn't know where my future lay.

"I saw my Under-19 team-mates progressing and thought 'we grew up together, now they've made it to the next level and I'm nowhere", so I was motivated even more. Unfortunately, I didn't get chances in UP."
